Cholecystography / Oral Cholecystography
Definition:
Oral cholecystography is a radiological procedure used to visualize the gallbladder and biliary channels
In which iodinated contrast/tablets is orally administered which is absorbed by the intestine and excreted by the liver into the bile.
Indication :
Gallstones
Gallbladder disease
Obstruction of the bile ducts
Risk Factors :
Contrast reaction
Vomiting
Nausia
Dirhea
Contrast :
Iodine containing tablets (Talipac)
Equipments :
X ray unit
Preparation :
The patient should be fasting for 4 hours
The iodine containing tablets is orally administered before 12 hours of procedure
Procedure :
In which iodinated contrast/tablet is orally administered which is absorbed by the intestine and excreted by the liver into the bile
Filming :
supine AP View (12 hours after taking the Tablets/ Iodinated contrast )
In the case if GALLBLADDER are not seen clearly
WE advise patient to take more Iodinated pills & Return to xray department after 12 hour of consumption.
